FROM THE CHESAPEAKE TO YOUr COMMUNITY

Belden-Eco Products, LLC (BEP) is a subsidiary of The Belden Brick Company focused on developing innovative, sustainable solutions for the beneficial reuse of dredged material. Building on more than a century of manufacturing expertise, BEP is advancing technologies that transform recovered sediment into durable brick and permeable paver products for infrastructure and community applications.

Through a circular economy approach, BEP aims to support long-term dredged material management needs while reducing reliance on traditional raw materials and promoting cleaner waterways, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable development.

WHAT ARE CHESAPEAKE BRICKS & PAVERS

Chesapeake Bricks & Pavers transform dredged material into high-performance bricks and permeable pavers – supporting smarter infrastructure, cleaner waterways, and local economic value.

The Chesapeake Brick is a sustainable product made by reusing dredged material. Instead of treating dredged sediment as waste, this approach turns it into a durable construction product that supports stormwater management and a circular economy.

WHERE ARE WE NOW

Chesapeake Bricks & Pavers have been successfully developed and tested through a research and development pilot program. We are now working in partnership with the Maryland Port Administration (an entity of the State of Maryland) to coordinate next steps for sitting, permitting, and constructing a dedicated manufacturing facility in Maryland.

Commercial availability will follow facility development and commissioning. We welcome conversations with potential partners and stakeholders as the project progresses.

MARKET DEMAND AND BENEFICIAL USE

Recent U.S. market analyses indicate strong demand for brick paver products driven by trends in hardscaping, sustainability, and resilient design. The U.S. brick paver market is estimated at approximately $350 million within a broader paver market valued at roughly $1.7 billion.

Maximizing dredged material reuse is central to Maryland’s Dredged Material Management Program (DMMP) and critical to sustaining the Port of Baltimore’s long-term dredging operations. As dredging demands increase, recovering and reusing material from containment facilities helps extend storage capacity, reduce reliance on new containment areas, and support a more circular approach to sediment management. To support these efforts, the Maryland Port Administration (MPA) plans to recover approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of dredged material over the next five years.

At the national level, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has established a goal to beneficially use 70% of dredged material by 2030, highlighting the need for scalable, high-volume reuse solutions. Belden Eco Products supports these objectives by transforming dredged material into durable infrastructure products that help sustain port operations, reduce environmental impacts, and support Chesapeake Bay restoration goals.
